Starting with two convex shapes on the ceiling, Jacksam Yang's design "Ripples" explores the potential of systematic wood decor in a unique and innovative way. Thinly cut and bent to create curves and fold lines, the wood decor extends to the walls, breaking away from traditional norms and redefining the space. This design is a testament to the spirit of craftsmanship, showcasing a full and abundant texture in a unique way.
What sets "Ripples" apart is its rich detail and texture. The ultimate craftsmanship is integrated into the emotions of contemporary time, organized around aesthetics and innovative concepts. This creates an exclusive and unique materials showroom that realizes the concept of design and future life. The design is not only visually appealing but also allows users to directly experience and feel the real proportion of the products, veins, textures, and effect, providing a firsthand experience of the materials.
The realization of this design was a challenge in itself. Overcoming the vertical and horizontal quality of systematic wood decor, processing, cutting, and bending were used to fulfill the design of curves and fold lines and apply it to the wall and the ceiling in the space. The design was created in a space of 60.5 ㎡, using marbles, steels, chevron flooring, systematic wood decor, bespoke lighting, dried floral, and edge banding.
The project, which started in December 2020 and finished in March 2021 in Taichung City, Taiwan, was a redesign of an office space into an open materials showroom. The space can be used for customer meetings and creates a shared workspace experience. By exploring the characteristics of materials through senses, discovering wonders in creativity, and realizing the possibilities in the process of design in full, the design aims to fulfill the meticulous and intuitive practicality of everyday life and see people as the essence of the space.
"Ripples" has overcome creative, technical, and research challenges to create a systematic design that can be duplicated and reproduced in large numbers and in different places. All the building materials of this shared workspace can be copied and assembled in other cities to achieve modularization. This innovative design has earned Jacksam Yang the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2022, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
